Hi all.
I would like to make a handwritten text in Apple Motion and overlay it in FCPX so that the text appears to be written over the top of the actual camera video. I know how to do the Motion writing, but not how to make it's background transparent to it will overly.
Any ideas?

... or just Publish your Motion project as an FCPX Generator and save yourself about a hundred MB in disk space.
Make sure to check Publish as Final Cut Generator (give it a "temporary"-ish Category):
PS - changes you make to the template in Motion will be immediately available* in FCPX.
*Available means you will still need to replace whatever is in the storyline because, until you restart FCPX, it keeps different versions of your generator "in place" (so you can actually have several different versions side by side for comparison — but as soon as you restart FCPX, they will all be reverted to the last saved project.) [I find this "feature" both "cool" and an occasional pain in the neck 😀]
If you are creating the text as a Motion Project, then as Tom said you need to export as ProRes 4444 to include the transparency information (Alpha Channel).
Alternatively you can create this as a title or generator so you can have further control in FCP X.

How are you doing the writing? In what application? Motion? Export a file using ProRes 4444.
