I tunes plays some songs more than others, why?

On I tunes version 12.3.46 I have over 600 songs on my playlist, some have played over ten times whilst others have only played once or twice. I listen every day lately, and am fed up with hearing the same songs several times a day, yet other songs are never played. Songs ticked as "loved" do not play any more than others. recently I have had to resort to hitting the next button several times as the same song is repeated for the third time that day. I check the next up list and edit it but still the problem remains.
