IT is so crazy to know that my laptop is almost full but not because I have some personal stuff in it but because "system" is taking most of it, 96gb. and Apple is not doing anything about this problem to think that I have read LOTS of the same concern. This is I think a tactic to buy a new one with a bigger capacity, which might be useless in the end because "system" will occupy most of it again.
The Storage tab does not always report correctly. Look in About this Mac > System Report > Storage. Also check by choosing your Mac HD and "Get Info" (command-i). It may be different. Try rebuilding Spotlight index.

Some of the space may also be from Time Machine Snapshots.

After you've freed up some space download Omni DiskSweeper:

Also, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
In Photos: File ▹ Show Recently Deleted ▹ Delete All
