Not as far as I know. iCal used to have a setting to specify how long it kept an event (months or years). No such option is available for Calendar, as far as I can see. I need to know what the default is. I know it's more than 1 month, it appears to be more than a year, but some past events in my calendar need to be kept longer than that.
If Calendar never deletes an event, that would be great, but calendar files could become enormous.

Not sure how enormous they could become but exporting the "Calendar Archive…" from the File menu can give you an idea of how large it is now.
More information would help. Is Calendar deleting events? Can you find a trend or does it appear to be random?
Interesting. They used to be larger, last time I paid attention. At that size, maybe events are never deleted. That would be nice. Still, I'd like to get a definitive answer.
