Question: How to run windows on my macbook pro?

I have a MacBook Pro, version 10.11.6 (El Capitan). I need to install Windows to use with one specific program that is not compatible with a mac. The company that owns the software suggests Parallels. Is this the best way to accomplish what I need? Are there other programs that might be better to accomplish the same thing? I really don't want to have to buy another laptop just to use this program! Thanks!

Answer:

Virtual Machines (VM) are a good software solution to run Windows; however like Parallels Desktop and FusionVM but you pay for it every year to keep up with each macOS upgrade.

Run Windows on Mac - Parallels Desktop 13 for Mac | Parallels

Run Windows on Mac | Virtual Machine for Mac | VMware Fusion | United States

There is freeware/shareware like Virtual Box. The benefit of these VM you can run both OS concurrently and switch between them like any software. So very convenient in that way.

Oracle VM VirtualBox

Bootcamp is built in to the MacOS. It requires a restart of the machine to switch the OS. it is dedicated, and requires a reboot to get back to macOS.

/Applications/Utilities/BootCamp Assistant.app

Boot Camp - Apple Support

How to install Windows on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support

Either way you still need a paid copy of Windows to install.
