I’m trying to update my Apple id and it wont allow me to use the email i want because it says its my notification email so i removed that email and tried to switch it and it still will not allow me to change it. what can i do?

Apple ID I have my apple id with an email that is no longer active. I want to change it to my current email but it will not let me saying I cant have the same email as my notification email. I take my current email of notification and it still will not let me change it.

when I try to change my Apple ID a new 3rd party email address I get a message that the Apple ID can't be the same as my notification email. If the notification email is the "Reachable at" email it is already the same with my current Apple ID. Given my problem what do I need to do to get Apple ID changed?
