Changed jobs, deleted old job email now no contacts

Yesterday I took my old work email off my device, today I have no contacts, just some texts or numbers that say "Maybe:" this person or that person. Is there a way to get my contacts back since I no longer have access to the email as it has been taken off my prior employers server?

iPhone 6s, iOS 11.2.6

It appears that you had your contacts synced with that email account. If that is the case and you no longer have access to that account, then the contacts are lost. This is especially true if this was an Exchange account. However, there are other email accounts that allow you to sync your contacts, such as Yahoo, Gmail, etc.
