The article involves a number of "if" scenarios, none of which applies. I've seen reference to a solution involving restarting while holding down command-R to start up in recovery mode and using terminal to reset the password. Is that still a viable option?
I guess you didn't see that in the all the posted links. If you use High Sierra then read the last two links.
