Fastest way to apply a rule to an email

As some point Apple changed how mail works and I know no longer no how to--quickly and easily--tell mail to apply a rule to the email I am looking at. The rule exists. Sierra OS.

Any suggestions??

Select your email or command A (to select all ) within a mailbox

Mail>Messages>Apply rules

Mail for mac, how to apply rules?? I have moved from TB to Mail because TB was getting too buggy. However, Mail is driving me round the bend too! I have a bunch of rules defined. If the email goes to my inbox the rules are correctly applied. However, if I read my email on my phone first, the rules are not applied any longer. When I go to my computer I need to select all those messages ONE BY ONE and click on select rule or move to the appropriate folder. I have even tried select all, apply rules, but it doesn't work. Any ideas of how to make them work? Mail seems plagued with all these little things that make the experience overall not really good. How difficult can it be to get a half decent mail client??

mail rules and the functions its provides So to start..... my system is old... MBP 7,1, 2010..... I've done upgrades so its still kicking pretty well but I can't upgrade past High Sierra..... Yes, I know it's old but unless anyone wants to fund a newer computer please don't comment. But I started setting up mail rules because smart mailboxes aren't cutting it since they don't cross over to iOS (iPhone XS Max, iPad 6th gen). The problem I'm running in to is the rules have an "all" or "any" choices. It also provides for adding parameters to the rules. How do Mail Rules Work? Hello, I would love to understand how mail rules work. I have various rules on my MacBook Pro which tell emails from certain people to go to a special folder, for example. As far as I can tell, these rules are stored locally on that Mac. But, what does this mean for how the rules operate? For example, if my Mac is powered off, do the rules still apply to emails coming in on my iPhone? If I got a new MacBook Pro and created a conflicting rule, what would happen then? Thanks in advance for the help.
