setting up a Numbers spreadsheet

I want to group a number of collumns under one heding. How do I set this up?

Hi Ian,


Method 1 (not generally recommended in this forum because merged cells often lead to unforeseen problems when sorting or filtering in Numbers). You can select the cells and Menu > Table > Merge Cells.

Here is a table with two Header Rows. All the Fruit Columns are selected in Row 1.

Repeat for all the Vegetables Columns

Method 2 (recommended).

Type the main group headings somewhere in the middle of the subgroups below.

Now, select a cell with a main group heading (in this example, Fruit)

Format Panel > Cell > Set the left and right Borders to No Border.

Repeat for other main group headings.

Row 1 now has the appearance of merged cells but they are not merged 😎.
