IMAC screen goes black constantly

I am actively working when screen goes out, every few minutes; mainly I'm using Mozilla Firefox, Apple Photos and TDS Email. I shake the mouse and things return to normal after ~2 seconds shaking, every time. A year ago, I had a 2009 IMAC and replaced it due to this problem. Either I copied over a bug when restoring data or both computers have this issue. Any solution? I do have about 50K photos stored and wonder if this is the cause.

A Safe Mode boot deletes system caches that may help.

To start up in safe mode:

Start or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key. The white Apple logo appears on your display. If you don't see the Apple logo, learn what to do.
Release the Shift key when you see the login window. If your startup disk is encrypted with FileVault, you might be asked to log in twice: once to unlock the startup disk, and again to log in to the Finder.

To leave safe mode, restart your Mac without pressing any keys during startup.
