rMBP '15 mid 2014 - dark display in clamshell mode

Hi all

I have rMBP '15 mid 2014 connected to BenQ UHD BL2711U monitor via DispPlay Port 1.2. High Sierra installed.

All works well while the MacBook is open. As soon as I close the lid, the external display goes dark (not to sleep). I can put it to sleep via keyboard shortcut. But when I wake it up, the display goes back to dark dimmed state. The power is connected to the MBP and wireless keyboard and mouse all function.. MacBook is not outputting to the external display in 'closed lid' mode. Any thoughts?

thanks

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3)

Hey there, Dmitry!

Thanks for bringing your MacBook Pro external display issue to the Apple Support Communities. If I understand, you are unable to use the computer in closed-display mode with the external display. Instead, when you close the computer the external display goes dark. I'd be happy to help!

First, make sure you're following the steps outlined in Use your Mac notebook computer in closed-display mode with an external display - Apple Support to get closed-display mode set up.

Once you confirm you're set up properly, I would recommend using the steps under the "If the display image is blank or unusable" section of Get help with video issues on external displays connected to your Mac - Apple Support if the issue persists.

Cheers!
