How do I add a person from a text message to my contacts

I have a 1 1/2 year old iPhone 7Plus and I need instruction on how to add a person's phone # who sent me a text message to my contacts list ? I thought I had done this before but apparently not:( Thank you in advance !!!

Hello gracie n,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding you need assistance creating a contact from a phone number in your Messages. I'm happy to help. Please review the steps below:

1. In Messages tap the number you'd like to save.

2.. Tap the More Info button User uploaded file .

3. Tap the > next to the phone number and choose Create New Contact.

Let us know if you were able to successfully add the contact.

Didn’t work tapping the # itself & when I tap the i

It just takes me to a “group” from which the # was given to me in the text. Ex: the person(s) who sent me the text are in the “group”. Is there something funky going on w/my phone? I’ve turned my phone on & off several times now so that’s not the problem. Very frustrating, so I guess I’m just going to try to add it in another way.
