downloading photos by year from icloud to PC

I have followed the following instructions:

Open a File Explorer window.
Under Favorites, click iCloud Photos.
Click Download photos and videos.
Choose the photos and videos you want to download and click Download.

and have chosen to download pictures by year.

The only thing that has happened now that under 'My Downloads', folders were created for each year (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016), but they are empty. I don't see any photos actually downloading. Does someone know what to do?

So say I wanted to view photos from Halloween 2007, all the dates on all the files now represent the date I copied them from iCloud, and not the date they were photographed/synced with iCloud. Is there anything I can do short of creating 12 months of folders per year and manually downloading each month into each corresponding folder on my PC?

Saving and storing photos & videos with original dates? Hi, my iCloud storage is getting huge and I want to take some of the pictures and videos off the iCloud and store them on a big hard drive I have. But I notice when doing so, all the files will have new dates on them (the date I transfer the files to the hard drive) and doesn't keep the date of the original. An original picture is stored on iCloud with the date and time it was taken or transferred to my iPhone for instance. But when I move this picture from iCloud to the hard disc, the photo gets stored on the hard drive with the date I transfer it to the hard drive. I would like to store the photo with the original date it was taken. How do I do this?

how can i download my last year's photos from icloud to my Windows pc? I used to be able to import my iphone photos to my Windows 10 computer using a usb cable and the Windows photos app now I believe my iphone photos are all stored in the icloud. That's fine for security but it means my historic photos are in one cloud (and also on a backup hard drive) but my recent photos are only in another cloud (Apple's icloud). I would like to be able to keep them all in one place. Can I download my last 12 months photos to my computer so I can have them all in one place without removing them from icloud?
