how to open unsupported versions of excel?

I down loaded a file and it shows that it is unsupported excel file version when I try to open. it only shows that Numbers is trying to open it.

Mac mini (Late 2014), iOS 8.3

I suggest downloading and installing LibreOffice then opening the document using LibreOffice. From there you can copy and paste the content to a new Numbers document.

you could also get MS Excel

What device are you using? Mac mini (Late 2014), iOS 8.3 is confusing.

A Mac or an iOS device?

What version of Numbers? (Numbers Menu > About Numbers).

What version of macOS? (Apple Menu > About This Mac).

Do you know the version of the Excel document?
