Macbook diagnosis fee

Hello,

I bought a Macbook Air (11 inch) in Ireland about 4.5 years ago, so it is not covered by warranty now.

It stopped working and doesn't get turned on anymore.

I would like to ask what is the cost of diagnosis in an Apple shop?

Thanks,

-Nasim

An Apple-owned Apple retail store (Apple Store) wouldn’t charge for a diagnosis, either in or out of warranty. An “Apple-Authorised“ repair shop may require a diagnostic fee.

The only Apple Store in Ireland is in Belfast. It shouldn’t matter where you bought it as they will still work with it.

Thank you y_p_w for the reply.

I live in cork city, and the closest shop to me is the below one which is an Apple premium reseller. Should I expect a free diagnosis from them?

I really don't know. A certified service center is free to charge for a diagnostic much like an automobile dealer can. My understanding is that for warranty or AppleCare service they will probably bill the diagnostic to Apple if it's deemed to be a covered defect.

I understand that some service centers might provide free diagnostics if you purchased it at that store. but that would be up to the store.

My default is to recommend going to an Apple Store because a diagnosis is always free and the quality of the service is excellent. I've literally had repairs done for free as long as it didn't require any kind of replacement part. I realize it's rather inconvenient for you given that the most convenient Apple Store is technically in a different country, but until Apple has a store in Cork I'm not sure there's any better option. You could simply go to that store and ask what the diagnostic cost is. If it's something as simple as replacing a completely failed battery, then they might waive the diagnostic fee.
