Why does Preview print PDF with muted colors?

When I print PDFs created in InDesign in Preview, the colors will print muted. PDFs created in Pages and printed in Preview print just fine.

The same InDesign document printed from within InDesign (before PDF conversion) prints fine.

The same InDesign created PDF printed from within Acrobat prints fine, too.

Every page in a PDF may potentially have a different color space where its text may be in one color space, artwork another, images yet another, and the background could even be a spot color. This is why when you perform a Finder Get Info on a PDF, or use the Preview Info panel, you will not see a specific color space assigned to the PDF.

Preview cannot hold a candle to Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, or even Acrobat Reader DC for interpreting the content of a PDF. Even the free Reader DC is more of a professional-oriented product than Preview.
