ICloud Mac Notes Disappeared when synced with icloud phone notes (El Capitan)

On my mac, I had a section of my notes under "ICloud" - when I first got my computer I logged onto my icloud and it just happened...and I didn't worry about it

Fast forward to yesterday- I wanted to sync my photos and videos from my phone to my computer so I went into system pref>>icloud>>then checked photos, but then I thought "why dont I sync my mac notes with my phone" so I checked the notes box

And then i watched in horror as my note under "ICloud" deleted and were replaced with the notes on my phone.

I tried unchecking the box, but that just deletes the shared notes. I tried using TM, but that only lets me restore files from today, and not yesterday. I tried logging on to icloud.com, but my notes are gone.

What do I do? I have the OS X El Capitan.
