Finder column view: preview no longer appearing on right

Recently this issue cropped up, really not sure as to why.

When I use Finder and change to Column View, ordinarily a pane will appear on the far right of the Finder showing info about the file. With images a preview image is shown, and with other files the relevant info is displayed like File Size, Date Modified, etc.

Now that field on the right no longer appears.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 7.1.2

With a Finder window open in Column view, click on View in the Menubar and then Show View Options and make sure

Show preview column is checked.
