how to delete clip from imovie

I want to delete some media from iMovie on my iMac but not the originals. How do I do this?

When I import media to iMovie does it make a copy and leave the original media where it is at?

Thanks.

iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3)

Yes, assuming that you are using iMovie 10.x.x.

Selecting and deleting a project or a clip from a project will not delete the media from the iMovie system. The media still remains in the iMovie library in a Finder folder titled Original Media. If you want to delete the media permanently from the system you must delete them from the Original Media folder. To display the Original Media folder, open iMovie and select the name of the library in the Media screen sidebar. The media in the library will be displayed under the titles of your projects. Select a clip in one of the projects displayed and then click on Find>Reveal in Finder. A folder will pop up titled Original Media that will list all the clips in that project. To delete them, select them all as a batch in the Original Media folder and either tap Delete on your keyboard, or do a File>Send to Trash and then empty the trash. In the latter case, the next time you open iMovie the media will be gone. Deleting the files from the Original Media folder will not delete any original files that are presently located in the place where they came from before importing into iMovie. This would assume that you have not previously deleted them from your camera or other place where they are stored. NOTE: Media deleted from the iMovie Original Media folder will be removed from any existing projects in which they are used.
