how to delete clip and keep audio

how do you delete the footage but keep the audio on the audio line? I deleted the video and the audio disappeared as well. Is there a way to disable a line from being affected or something?

Hi,

Assuming that you are using iMovie 10.x.x: When you delete a video clip it will also delete any audio clip that is attached to it. To the left of the audio clip you can see the little handle that attaches it. Place your cursor on the audio clip and, while pressing down, pull the audio clip downward to the very bottom audio well. As you pull it down, you will see the little handle pull off of the video clip. That will detach it from the video clip so that when you delete the video clip it will not delete the audio clip as well.
