How do I insert symbols (eg symbol for degrees) in my Pages documents?
How do I insert symbols (for example, the circular symbol for degrees) and emojis in my Pages documents?
MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 10.3.3

With the US input source, you can get Degree via Option - Shift - 8, °. (The Option zero suggested by some others is for a different but similar-looking character used with numbers in some European languages).
It is best not to use a "symbol" font to create special characters, as this will put your text into a non-standard (non-Unicode) encoding form for them.

To create the degree symbol, hold down the option key and then select the zero key on your MacBook Pro keyboard.
Alternately you can choose the symbol font set to enter this or other symbols. Finally, try using Pages Help.
You can get the degree symbol by pressing Option 0, as in 28ºC. Emojis and other special characters can be found by enabling them in the Input Sources section of Keyboard preferences.
