How do I insert symbols (for example, the circular symbol for degrees) and emojis in my Pages documents?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 10.3.3

With the US input source, you can get Degree via Option - Shift - 8, °. (The Option zero suggested by some others is for a different but similar-looking character used with numbers in some European languages).


It is best not to use a "symbol" font to create special characters, as this will put your text into a non-standard (non-Unicode) encoding form for them.
