I can’t remember the password for the encryption for the iPhone backup in iTunes. What can I do?

I had to get a new iPhone due to battery issues... I backed up my iPhone last night before going to the Apple Store.

I come home with the new phone and plug it in to get all my stuff from the old to the new... and it’s asking me for a password.

I haven’t backed up my iPhone in over a year. I don’t remember selecting the option for a password. I tried every password I could remember or written down in the past 2 years. Is there anything I can do to get around this?

Nope.

Unfortunately, the encryption password that is protecting your backup from others is also protecting it from you. That password is your key, and you really cannot break down the door.

If you cannot remember the password, you cannot retrieve the backup.
