Safari is draining my battery on Mac out of the blue

As of this afternoon, Safari is draining my battery at an alarming rate. Nothing I was doing changed. It went from using around 20-25 for energy impact to over 100 for the same sites. I tried restarting my Mac, closing Safari and only having one tab open (had 4-5 before this no problem), and clearing my history. I'm running 10.12.2. I tried updating but it won't let me. I just keep getting an error issue. Chrome was doing the same thing which is why I switched to Safari a couple months ago. I'm not sure where to go from here. This page alone as I'm typing is taking up 59 for an energy impact. This is the only page I have open at the time.

MacBook Air, iOS 11.0.2

It can be a single page. I saw unusual and unexpected battery drain on my MacBook Pro a couple of weeks ago. I looked at Activity Monitor and saw that the Amazon home page was using between 25 and 55 units of energy; nothing else was even close. At the time of this screen shot it was at 35:

User uploaded file

I had logged in to look up something on Amazon, then opened a new window for Apple's forums with 18 tabs. Each Apple tab used less than one unit. I closed the Amazon page and immediately gained back 45 minutes of runtime.

I was able to make the Amazon site repeat this behavior later.

So use Activity Monitor to see if any one page is using a large amount of energy.

1. Try resetting SMC:

Reset SMC. Choose the method for “If the battery is non-removable”.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

2. From the report:

"Battery: Health = Normal - Cycle count = 898"

If resetting SMC doesn't help, even though battery health is stated as "Normal',

with Cycle count running very high, I would try replacing the battery.
