USB/Firewire Interface for MIDI and audio (Garage Band)

I want to connect a Roland Handsonic (electronic drum) and Shure microphone to a Mac Pro for recording in Garage Band. What is the best USB/firewire interface for MIDI and audio?

Mac Pro desktop Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Wow !! its a live mixer to
"The effects section offers 100 presets with ten selections of gorgeous hall, room, plate, and chamber reverbs as well as ten presets each of chorus, flange, and delay. The last 30 are vocal harmony effects and multi-effect combinations."

It sounds like a great tool for a live gig but I wonder if there is a quality/sound penalty for all these features when it comes to recording ?

When I went shopping or a high quality interface, that was my gut reaction as well. There has to be a trade off. I can't tell you if there is or isn't, but I can tell you that the next step up is a leap in price.

I would also add that, "trade off" and "quality" are rather questionable and relative terms. Most people can not hear a difference.

Listen to Real World, and Shine, and see if you hear a dramatic difference.

I think this points out the questionable nature of "Quality".

Real World was recorded with a $30 interface. Shine was recorded with a (currently) $500 interface (it was $800 a few months ago). There are other differences too, like all SM57s-58s on Real World, and the addition of a really awesome condenser mic on Shine, but the point is that I think your end result will depend more on your skills then on the differences between a $300 and $500 interface.

I know iSteveus uses a USB Alesis console and from all his posts, he's been very happy with it. The FireWire version will give you up to 8 tracks (USB gets you 2)

With that $50 rebate knocking the price down to $250, I think it's a really good choice for what you want to do.

Hope that helps. ~~Hang

EDIT: Thanks for the Compliment, BTW B-)>
