iPhone X: Face ID button in settings has frozen so cannot be toggled to on to allow unlocking of phone by Face ID. How to fix that?

Good morning DHM21,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand you are unable to enable Face ID on your iPhone X in the Settings app. Try restarting your iPhone first, then force restart to see if you are able to toggle the setting. If that does not resolve the issue, you may need to Reset Face ID.
iPhone User Guide - Restart or Force restart iPhone X
Restart iPhone. To turn off iPhone, go to Settings > General, then tap Shut Down. Or:

iPhone X: Simultaneously press and hold the side button and either volume button until the sliders appear, then drag the top slider to power off.

Force restart iPhone. If iPhone isn’t responding, press and hold down the button combination for your model until the Apple logo appears:

iPhone X: Press and release the volume up button, press and release the volume down button, then press and hold the side button.

Helpful advice MoonJ however, I had already tried that approach without success. This is what I see in settings. The iphone unlock button still refuses to toggle on. It won't budge even though Face ID is working perfectly well for apps etc, I can't unlock the phone itself with Face ID. All other suggestions welcome.User uploaded file
