iPhone 8 randomly shuts down

My son’s iPhone 8 randomly shuts down, or goes black and can not be turned back on without restarting. The phone is only 2 wks old and running IOS 11.2.6, he has not dropped it it’s in an otter box case. I’m lost what should we do?
