I can create a playlist on my ipod 4th gen and add songs to it, but the songs are not displayed when the playlist is opened. Why?

I have a PC using Windows 10 and the latest version of iTunes. My ipod touch 4th gen is upto date with its OS. In the past when creating playlists and adding songs I have not had and problems. Now, however, I can create a playlist and add songs, and all seems fine looking at the PC monitor. However, when I open the playlist on the ipod, no songs are displayed. Any suggestions on how to correct this will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work.

I did figure out a way that did work.

I opened iTunes and created the playlist and added the mp3 files from the PC. Then I connected the iPod, and clicked on the iPod icon to open my device. I then created the same name playlist on the iPod and clicked done, leaving it empty.

Then I scrolled down to the playlist I created in the Library, left clicked and held the playlist and then dragged and dropped it into the same named playlist for the device. The songs were imported to the device playlist and now the playlist and songs are visible on the iPod screen.

This may be a bit cumbersome, but at least it worked.

Presumably, you are using Sync to manage your iPod and you are making these changes to the playlist in your iTunes Library.

The recommended method is to make changes in your iTunes Library without having the iPod connected to it. Once you have finished your changes, connect the iPod to the library and wait for the sync to complete.

If you make the changes while the iPod is connected to iTunes (and it is to the original version in the Library, not the one on the iPod), you will almost certainly need to click the Sync button afterwards for those changes to be copied onto your iPod.

That sounds to me as though you're using Manually Manage, not Sync, in which case my suggestion won't work. The screenshot below is an old one (so it has additional highlighted parts). Do you have the Manually Manage option selected (the lower option that is ringed in orange)?

If you do, then that's why you have to drag songs onto your iPod.
