Activation lock issue

So guys, I have an original proof of purchase for the device (iPhone 6) which is activation locked. Furthermore, I have original box (with corresponding IMEI identical to the one on proof of purchase).

I am the second owner of the device and I bought it from a friend. I made a request to disable the activation lock and this morning I got a reply:

"Apple is unable to complete your request to disable Activation Lock.

We will not be able to review additional requests or documentation associated with this device."

Who can help me with this issue and what kind of answer is this?

But if I have, they have to do it. One way or the other.

I don't believe they have to do anything.

This is a personal issue between you and the previous owner.

Apple, LG, Samsung, or any other phone manufacturer has no role to play in the 3rd party re-sale of their devices.

The previous owner should have properly prepared the phone you acquired from them for resale.

You say the email address used on the device does not exist anymore. That may very well be, but the Apple ID still does. The email address is just a "nickname" for the Apple ID.

It had a password possibly different from the one used to access the email. That is the password you and/or your friend need to turn off Find My Phone and remove the activation lock.

Once again, you are asking this volunteer community to validate your point. It really does not matter what anybody here thinks or agrees with.

Apple’s decision is all that matters with regards to what constitutes a proof of purchase.

Having someone here agree with you will not sway Apple.

I am sorry you are in this situation.

Apple.

If I have proof of purchase with IMEI on it I should be able to remove activation lock, is this correct?

Apple is the party you should be asking this question of.

It sounds like they have made a decision that you disagree with. Understandable.

However, nobody here can possibly give you rationale for Apple's decision.

Well, I disagree. Second hand owners do have rights if they have all the documents needed. And if you say like you do, does Apple say that the devices are intended to be used only from one person, the person who bought it?

Furthermore, "just a nickname" is a must have when you want to make a password reset in case you do not remember answers to the security questions. We all know that a capital letter in security answer do make a difference so it is quite easy to write an incorrect answer.

Bottom line is - having a receipt is not enough anymore?
