upgrading memory ram to 8gb or 16gb? Macbook Pro Model No. A1278?

I want to upgrade my memory ram on my macbook pro 13"

Model No. A1278

It has already 4gb, but how can I know if I can upgrade it to 8gb or 16gb?


Can someone help me please?

The model number on the case doesn't tell you enough. It really only describes the case, and there were different logic boards with different capabilities. Apple specifically has never recommended more than 8 GB for any of these machines, but it's well know that several of the models can accept and use 16 GB. Some of the earlier models really do only use up to 8 GB.


What does it say in About This Mac? Click on the little Apple in the upper corner. It will give a more detailed description, like "MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2012)" for mine.
