Console Error: "0 is not a valid connection ID"

Following the latest update: 10.13.4 (High Sierra) on my Macbook Pro 2015 (3.1 / i7 / 16GB) I noticed the fans going flat out and rapid battery drain

I checked Activity Monitor and found UserEventAgent and Launchd were maxing out the CPU

I checked Console and found the repeated error as mentioned in the heading: "0 is not a valid connection id"

After reading up on various options, I moved the contents of the folder: .../Library/LaunchAgents/ to a new folder for safe keeping, and rebooted.

Problem with the fans now solved, from 6000+ rpm down to 1300 rpm and the CPU is no longer being overloaded with UserEventAgent and Launchd.

I checked a few of the apps that seem to be connected to the various launch agents to make sure I haven't broken anything, and so far everything is loading and working as it should.

However the Console error is still showing (so possibly unrelated to the UserLaunchAgent issue), anyone got any thoughts of either of these issues?

Speaking only to the SkyLight error message. Try this

With No Applications active>> Desktop>> GO>> Utilities and look for Activity Monitor. Open Activity Monitor. In top Right of Activity Monitor type signpost_notificationd. In main screen of Activity Monitor you should see signpost_notificationd. Click on that process until it is hi-lited. In Top Left of Activity Monitor look for First Icon that looks like a large X >> that should be Force Quit. Although you try to Force Quit it will not.

If you are successful, quit Activity Monitor and Open Console. Let it run 1 - 2 minutes. If all goes well all those Error messages related to Signpost_notificationd will have ceased ( only until the next reboot )

Good luck

Ok... so an update on this. It appears that the 2 issues I mentioned above do indeed seem to be unrelated (I thought they may be related at the time).

The issue of UserEventAgent and Launchd maxxing the CPU was resolved by moving the contents of the folder: .../Library/LaunchAgents/ to a new folder for safe keeping, and rebooting. Several days later the computer has been running totally fine, no issues at all.

Except...

The Console Error "0 is not a valid connection id" is still showing between 2-8 times per second. No sign of actual performance degradation in terms of general usage, but I have not run any diagnostics on that to confirm.

Just to clarify these issues seem to be independent.

signpost_notificationd

Same here, have it on my 2016 MacBook Pro with TouchBar and on my iMac Pro but only since the 10.13.4 update, not before.

My MacBook sometimes gets unresponsive for some seconds but I can live with that. But my iMacs sound freezes completely and the speaker gives a wired noise as it is completely hung up. I needed to force reboot my brand new iMac Pro four times (!!!) during the last four days only because I was watching a YouTube-Video.

What the **** is the matter with you Apple?

Try this and 1- see if error messages cease 2- performance is any better

Yeah, like you said - until the reboot. And then, it is still an Apple-service, no plan, what exactly it does but it's assumable it's necessary.

And it of course doesn't change anything on the horrible software quality Apple delivered this year. If I have a 6000 francs computer that hangs up while watching a normal YouTube-video (even if he succeeds doing hardware-intensive tasks) then I'm just angry.

Apple will have to release a supplemental update (the third this year? Or even the fourth?) and the more people have this problem, the clearer is the situation, the higher is the pressure on the Monsieurs from Cupertino.
