safari doesn't display facebook correctly

Safari > Preferences > Extensions

Uncheck the box beside Dashlane in the sidebar.

Download it, open Downloads folder, click on it to open and select ”Open”.

Select a problem from the “Choose a problem” popup menu box, and then “Start EtreCheck” in the dialog.

Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard”, and then paste it when you reply.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later. Please post if this worked or not.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer or by using the developer’s uninstall instructions. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once. Please post if this worked or not.

Plus 1 to this - most websites are fine but facebook is doing weird things, just last couple of weeks. Only 2 stories in timeline, searched pages revert to facebook default page after selecting search result.

Chrome works fine.

William you mean probably 7/30/2018, I had the same problem, but when I disabled all of my plugins it start working normally. Maybe try to quit safari and wait couple of seconds to free memory. Safari is very hungry ;-)

I have all plug-ins disabled, I have done all the suggested methods and Facebook still doesn't work for me. Is there something else I am missing? I don't have Dashlane, I do have AdBlock but it has been disabled for awhile now.

Alright, I figured it out for my mac. This is what I did:

Safari>Preferences, click Privacy, type in Facebook, then select any of the Facebook cookies, and remove all. Once that was done, I just opened a new tab and Facebook opened properly once I entered my passwords/username. You may have to restart your browser

Go to preferences --> advanced, and click "show develop bar in menu." Close preference window go to

Develop-->User Agent --> select your current version of Safari instead of having it on default. Close and reload the fb page and you should be good to go.

I was confused by this response and still am as the advice is to turn off Dashlane and the graphic shows turning off AdBlock. But since I don't use Dashlane and I do use AdBlock and was having this very issue, I tried turning off AdBlock. And that fixed the problem, except now I have to look at ads. So does anyone know of an ad blocker for Safari that is compatible with Facebook?

In this thread, as in all the others I've read, the most frequently reported conflict was caused by the Dashlane password manager, and as I said, I did turn off AdBlock and it did fix the problem. I've since downloaded the newer app (as opposed to extension) version of AdBlock. Not as convenient to use but it doesn't have issues with Facebook.

Turning off AdBlock fixed the problem, but I don't want to run Safari without AdBlock. There's a reason I downloaded that extension in the first place! I've never even downloaded Dashlane Any other fixes known?

I'm having this same problem. Facebook seems to have recently suggested that I go into Safari's Develop menu > User Agent and set the User Agent to Safari 11.1.2. I noted that User Agent had set my Safari to the Default. I reset it and went to Safari preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data and cleared the Facebook entry. There was a transient effect, but very quickly Facebook would only load one item again. Of note, Facebook is working perfectly on my iPad running iOS 11.4.1

I wouldn't try disabling AdBlock just for Facebook. If you are running AdBlock 2.x, disable it entirely by unchecking it in Safari under Preferences/Extensions or by clicking on the Uninstall button in the same place.

Just chiming in here - I don't have Dashlane but do have an Adblock extension and when I unticked that Facebook magically started to work again. It's as if this is a problem with Safari extensions as a whole rather than just Dashlane.
