Help... how to stop my 2010 imac starting up automatically at 08:00 am Every morning

Help! how to stop my 2010 imac starting up automatically at 08:00 am every morning, or how can I mute the startup chimes?


using MacOS high sierra 10.13.4


I’ve tried the sudo nvram systemaudiovolume=%80 command in terminal and the ’hold down the mute key while starting’, but nothing is working.... thanks

Have you looked at "Energysaver" settings in System Prefs ? Click on the "Schedule" button at the bottom of that window to see if your Mac is set to come on automatically in the morning. You can change the settings in the "Schedule" window. For example I have my Mac set as shown below.
