Why does safari no longer save passwords after the recent iOS 11.3 upgrade

Why does safari no longer save passwords as it used to, since the latest iOS 11.3 upgrade. All of my passwords on my iPhone X and my iPad 9.7 pro are no longer there and I’m having to constantly re enter passwords for everythin. Annoying as ****!!

Good morning desmondfrombirmingham,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand you are noticing that Safari is no longer saving passwords on your iPhone X and iPad. The resource below will provide some troubleshooting steps for this issue, including checking your settings for iCloud Keychain and Safari autofill. I've highlighted some key information here for you. Click on the link for complete details.
Frequently asked questions about iCloud Keychain
Get help with iCloud Keychain

If Safari doesn't autofill your account names, passwords, or credit cards, or doesn't ask to save them to begin with, check the AutoFill and Private Browsing settings on your device.

On iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 9 or later:

  1. Tap Settings > Safari > AutoFill.
  2. For account names and passwords, check that Names and Passwords is on. For credit card information,* check that Credit Cards is turned on.
  3. Open Safari. If the navigation bar in Safari is black or dark instead of white or light gray, turn off Private Browsing. Safari doesn't save account names and passwords when Private Browsing is on.

If you can't view the passwords stored in iCloud Keychain

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 11 or later:

  1. Tap Settings > Accounts & Passwords > App & Website Passwords.
  2. Use Touch ID when you're prompted.
  3. Tap a website to view your password.

If you don't see your iCloud Keychain items

There are several possible reasons for why you can't find your iCloud Keychain information:

  • Did you restore from an iCloud backup and then notice missing iCloud Keychain items? iCloud Keychain items aren't part of iCloud Backup because they already live in the cloud. To find your iCloud Keychain items in iOS 10.3 or later, tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Keychain and turn on iCloud Keychain.
  • Did you turn off iCloud Keychain on all your devices? If so, your iCloud Keychain is removed from the cloud. If you chose to delete the keychain items from your devices when you turned off iCloud Keychain, your iCloud Keychain is also removed from those devices. You need to set up iCloud Keychain and add items again. (If you turn off iCloud Keychain on all your devices and choose to delete your iCloud Keychain locally on all your devices, Apple can't recover your iCloud Keychain.)
Take care.

I had this problem too. Try this: click on the username box (or password field if the username is already pre-populated). Then before typing anything, a small grey sash will appear just above the keyboard. Click on the username you had saved in your Apple Keychain, or the password saved in your Keychain, and Safari will populate your saved info.

I don't like keychain because it makes it even MORE difficult to get into my accounts. I choose not to use it. I am tired of every time there is an update that i am no longer able to access my accounts because autofill doesn't work and then I have to try to search a way to fix the problem. The suggestions given here aren't working. I am having to struggle through each account where I have passwords stored. It is most annoying.

DivingDancer - are you using the Split Keyboard or the full Keyboard with your iPad?

If, since updating to iOS12, you are attempting to use the Split Keyboard feature on your iPad, Password Autofill is now thoroughly broken. At present, native Password Autofill from the iOS Keychain only works on iPad if you use the full on-screen keyboard.

We are waiting for this bug to be fixed by Apple. It was reported on day-one of the public iOS12 release - and again with both iOS 12.0.1 and 12.1.

I have tried that and still...the passwords just are not saving, are not available in Passwords on Safari. It seems a glitch with one of the latest updates...and is soooooo frustrating. I have Auto save turned on ...any other ideas? This has been driving me nuts. I even have to constantly verify my laptop--and maybe this is part of it. Each time I'm asked for my Apple ID and password, I get a message that a "new" device is using it and they give me a six digit code that I then have to fill in on the same laptop I received the code on---this seems odd to me. Usually you get a code on a different device--like the phone to fill in on laptop or vice versa--but not on same device...or am I mistaken. But that my own laptop is not even recognized....What's going on?

It’s a very good question. Whatever the new system is about, it does not work, and it’s annoying as all ****...There are no reminders popping up when you click on the fields. I have to go to Settings -> Accounts and Passwords, search for a website and copy the passoword manualy. It seems that more and more people are coming to the same conlusion - Apple products are worse and worse each year, and the prices do not go down....:/

It seems we can do two things here - either use third party passoword saving utility or use a physical pendrive and store all passowrd there, however it will not work on iPhone or iPad. We can also say bye to apple. That’s also and option since there are so many issues with servicing. We can also whine and wait for the fix. Or learn passwords by heart. And why not? It’s a good memory excersise...
