unstoppable popups in chrome and safari

Hi,

I have a macbook air 2016, macos 10.13.4 and within the last two weeks, Safari AND Chrome are putting out these popup tabs.... NON-STOP. I've got popups for mackeeper, especially amazon deal of the day popups. and at times chromes just chrashes and relaunches which is so annoying. In preferences, I've got the "Block pop-ups" checked (and it's been unchecked too) but either way, I still get them coming through! Any thoughts or advice on this???

Thank you

MacBook Air, macOS High Sierra (10.13.4)

You could have adware. Try Malwarebytes.

Malwarebytes - https://www.malwarebytes.com/pricing/ - There are different versions available depending upon what features you want. For a single removal without ongoing monitoring you can probably use the free version.

More disreputable sites tend to have pop-ups for undesirable software. Avoid those sites. Adblockers don't really help.

Things I use to help those with malware on their Macs. Each case is unique. Yours appears to have gotten to a significant level of chaos, so use & refer as you like. Apple.com has other resources too if these don't suit your needs or you just want to check:

Update software

Clear browser history on Safari, Chrome or any browsers you have

Remove extensions you have in your browsers

Change homepage back to its regular one after via Safari - preferences - general - home page

Install Malwarebytes for Mac

Check Applications. Remove those unknown to you

Check system preferences - extensions - disable those checked within each tab

System preferences - enable firewall

Empty your trash as you delete things

*If you can't install Malwarebytes in regular nor safe mode, Komros is an excellent program via the App store that will clean things up right away. It's the only one I use besides Malwarebytes. It's clean, non-invasive, & if you want to uninstall later, it's super easy.

Here are some of the articles I reference. Again, it depends on your situation:
