Pain in fingers with new MBP keyboard (2017)
I see that others have had issues with the new MBP keyboard. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try the keyboard out before purchasing the mbp 2017 model. I regret it now. I have been using this mbp for 1 month and already feel pain in my fingers. I am an ergonomist and must say that this keyboard was poorly designed. So is the scroll bar. There is no give to the fingers from the keyboard and the keyboard forces the users to press down on the buttons even harder than normal. The force adds up in our joints. Also, because the keyboard is so flat, there is more strain in the joints and forces users to minimize the movements of the fingers. It's almost like you have to squeeze your fingers together to try and hit all the right buttons. I'm not sure about anyone else, but the new keyboard has also decreased my typing speed and increased the number of errors while typing. The flatness of the keyboard doesn't really allow the user's fingers to feel the keys to type properly. I found that putting a silicon keyboard cover helps with typing a bit faster. The keyboard itself is very slippery and so very shallow that it's hard to know where you are actually typing.
Just on a side note, the slider bar at the top is pretty useless. I mean, I used to be able to feel the volume buttons with my hands without looking to adjust the volume. Now, you have to look, touch the volume icon an then adjust it by either sliding the volume tab or tapping each side of the volume icons. To be honest, it just added another step to adjusting the volume or brightness. It's not very accessible for those who may be visually impaired as well.
I'm quite disappointed all together. After spending $3000, I can't really believe that I have to carry around one of my bluetooth ergo keyboards to use a laptop. Really puts a question mark in my head. I wonder if apple can do anything about the keyboard or if there are any other fixes.
