Safari World leaks...

I'm seeing World Leaks with Safari often on the one user I have this Debug thing enabled. Is there any way of knowing what to do about it?

I think I know what a memory leak is... it's when code tries to access something outside of what it's allocated to do. Usually this is associated with bad code, or something gone corrupted, right? Does a world leak tell me anything specifically?

Klaus1 - I'm not convinced that World Leaks are the result of the web site... If I can raise them while digging around on Apple's site will that convince you? I'm pretty sure that has happened. I rather think that something is messed up with my system somewhere... I would love to find it. In any case, I've only turned on the Safari Enhancer on one of my users so I only see the World Leaks there.

Alidia - Yes, Mac's have their issues, just like PC's... But I wouldn't write off this forum. I've got quite a few answers here in a fairly short time. By the way... My MS Word works fine between sentences I can put in no spaces, one space or two spaces. But you do have to put up with people telling you to move your question to the right forum... once you get that down people will help!

OK ... I just realized why I never see the World Leaks from my main user... and that was because Safari Enhancer had User settings all turned off. SO... I've just done a Archive and Install here so Safari should be reasonably default right?

So I'll check ALL of the options in Safari Enhancer. Here they are:
Deactivate Cache
Activate Debugging Menu (the one that I think will show me the leaks)
Deactivate Site Icon Cache (is this a problem?)
Disable Apple PDF Support (
Incude background image when printing (ooo maybe I'll turn that back off)
Show link URL in tooltip when hovering mouse

Maybe this will work!? Anyway I'm typing this inside Safari which is a good sign!

This might be the best news in quite some time....

I used Safari quite a bit here and it didn't freeze.

Does Apple actually admit anything in a release note or something like: "Fixed memory leaks in Safari"?

I hadn't noticed the release had rolled... should I give Alida a star for calling this to my attention? I know everyone else tried to help 🙂

I quit using Adobe Reader...I always have problems. If I have to used adobe reader on something, I don't read it or I send the file to my roomate's computer who has a windows platform and read it there..
I don't know why Adobe Reader always gives me problems.
You may have to make sure you have all the latest updates on Adobe reader.
There are always so many updates on such much software, it gets to be a hassle.
I am having NO problems now with Safari since the new 10.4.9 update.

I had problems with printing from Preview, and not opening PDF's is not an option in today's world. I'm leaving Adobe 5 on the machine I guess because I don't trust that Adobe 8 will always work. Adobe 8 was my default but I think when I do the Archive and install things tend to revert back.

Glad to hear it. I've seen it fail on 10.4.9 so I know it's not fixed for me. It just freezes up ... I had occasionally seen the World leak message but not lately.

Perhaps you google some adobe reader forums or some more apple forums. There are so many good forum sites to help you find out what is wrong. Secunia and other antivirus sites are good also. You could have buffer overflow problems or a remote attacker has written bad script...those two things seem to be the problems all the time now.

What AV are you using? I use Intego AV and Netbarrier 4X and have had some recent updates.

Also, I sign up for the government CERT virus advisories and get emails from them on a regular basis.

You can also download clamXav for free. It doesn't fix any virus problems, but tells you if you have infected files. I use both usually.

I reset my safari browser and empty the caches about twice a day when I am on a great deal.

It's weird, but even when I empty my safari cache from the safari browser, when I clean them out on NetBarrier 4X, it always finds some left that safari didn't clean.

You may need to cleanout the cache also on Quicktime or other software also.

I don't know if that will help, but you can give it a try.

Well, I don't like the window popping down telling me I have them and to report them to apple everytime I close safari.

By clearing all the caches, I eliminated the problem after one world leak again happened to me.

Just go up to where is says DEBUG, at the top of the screen, next to help. Click on it. Go to caches, clean them both out and refresh and bingo, it stopped. I don't have another world leak.

Hey, it's a problem.....I go to sites where hackers may be and they know how to remote attack or at least they act like they know how it's done and tell me how to not get attacked. I am not taking any chances about World Leaks. I got it again after visiting and posting on a site.

Clearing the caches in the Debug menu fixed it.
I don't want that window popping down all the time and telling me to report it to Apple!

Have a nice day!!!

Yes, your are probably correct.
I got a world leak twice again after visiting a certain website...to fix it I just go to debug. Go to caches...empty everything, inlcuding gargabe java scripts and restart the computer and bingo, Safari has no more World Leaks. So that does it for me....and I don't have to force quit Safari. I try not to use any other software that is not on Apple Downloands....I hate having to update so many other things if I don't have to.

Thanks thanks thanks...this solved it for me.

I'm having the same problems with Safari hanging and crashing. I believe my problems started occuring with the last Max OS X Update (Intel) 10.4.9 (installed 3/14/07).

Sometimes the hang is so bad I have to depress and hold the power button to reboot. The force quit doesn't work - won't make the spinning beach ball go away.
