iMessage Scrolling on Mac 10.12.6

Just updated to Mac 10.12.6.

Lost ability to scroll messages on Mac 10.12.6. iPhone 7 iMessage no problem.

Able to send and received iMessages from Mac but not able to scroll past messages, but iPhone allows scrolling to view past messages.

Any clue how to fix?

Thanks-Mike

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Also try the Safe Mode.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

Safe Mode - About El Capitan
also Sierra

Safe Mode Startup – El Capitan. also Sierra

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Hi,

I would check the folder ~/Library/Messages

If there are 7 files in here and there are three with "incompatible" in the name then the "History" of any chat might curtailed.

That is to say that the mac has started "saving" the info again and you current usable history from those file may not be enough to allow the chat to Scroll

To access the folder, open Finder Window

Use the GO Menu whilst holding down th ALT/Option Key

Select the Library that appears and navigate to Messages.

Hi,

I had missed the yes to the question about a Trackpad that was ahead of the Etresoft printout.

Well there is no setting in Messages > Preferences to use the Arrow keys.

There is also no Menu item to Enable or Disable this function.

Does CMD and the Arrow keys do anything ?

For me this rushes the scroll to the bottom or top depending on the Arrow key.

This still works in High Sierra whereas it seems the regular Arrow Key Scroll disappears as you seem to be experiencing.

I have OS X 10.12.6 on my Sierra computer and it scrolls in Messages using the Arrow keys.

I would try changing the size of the window.

And the CMD key move above just to see if either of these kick it in to gear so to speak. (it does not in High Sierra)

I find it hard to think that this Function changed for later downloads of OS X 10.12.6 compared to Early adopters.

You could also try a NVRAN reset

How to reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

This may bring back the function.

Lastly you could try running the update again or doing a Restore from the Internet to see if the app gets the function back.

This thread is already tagged for Messages.

You have adware installed.

Download this program which was written by Thomas Reed, a long time poster. The program will do the work for you which makes it easy. There is no reason to leave it installed once troubleshooting is finished. The free version doesn't update itself. If you need it again, you can download it again. If that doesn't work, try the manual instructions.

I would uninstall AVG. It tends to interfere with the computer's operation while providing minimal to no benefit unless you work with Windows files. Most long time posters recommend not using antivirus software or cleaning software such as CleanMyMac.
