Installing FileMaker server required me to kill the apache service that was running. I figured everything would be OK after the install but it's not. FMS is ok, but my iCal server is no longer running even though in server stats it says it is. I read elsewhere that the "fix" was to remove macOS server and re-install. I did that, but it's still not working. When I point my browser to port 8008 I get no response. What can I do to check/fix this?

OK. Presumably you're not using the macOS Web service, or Profile Manager, or any other service with a web interface then?
I have not had this trouble. After I killed apache for the FM installer (are we talking v16?), I then chose different ports for FileMaker, which it asked me for during the install (I choose 5080 and 5443 to match FM's existing use of 5003).
Did you choose 8008?

This host is used as a calendar server, so I believe it's using apache for that on alternate ports.
