How do I export voice memos out of iTunes

I'm trying to export my voice memo playlist out of iTunes as usable audio files with the names intact. The only choices I get are plain text, unicode text, xml, m3u and m3u8 which all seem to be text files not music.

After hours of work arounds, I've only been able to get them out as a series of numbered files and I am daunted by the task of having to sort through and rename hundreds of files.

What is the deal with making voice memos so hard to do anything with? I certainly will never use this feature ever again. Is there a newer better feature out there for iPods now that you would recommend?

You can simply drag and drop voice memos from iTunes out to a folder, however as noted what you get is a set of files with names based on the time of the recording rather than any other metadata you have entered. If you change the media kind to song, and you have filled in details such as name, album and artist to reflect the content of the recording then they might be renamed to something you find more useful.

iTalk Recorder on the App Store has served me well as an alternative to Voice Memos. Use iTunes File Sharing to copy off your recordings.
