My 2017 27 inch iMac shuts down instead of going to sleep since the 10.13.4 update. It wil sleep for a couple of hours but any longer than that it will shut itself down.
No changes were made to the energy saver settings during the update.
Tried:
- Resetting the NVRAM
- Resetting the SMC controller
- I don't have any scheduled shut downs
Any suggestions?

I think it is safe to say that this is an error caused by a Bug in High Sierra 10.13.4.
So far either going back to 10.13.3, turning of FileVault or turning of Standby makes the problem go away. Somebody also posted that 10.13.5 Beta seems to fix the bug as well.

Same problem for me. I solved it by going back to 10.13.3. Other users report that disabling FileVault solved the problem with 10.13.4 as well. There is a another thread here - look for "Sleep Wake Failure".
Turned off FileVault and the problem went away. It still takes a lot longer to wake from sleep then I'm used to (sometimes up to 20 seconds) but al least it wakes again.
Would be nice to see the bug fixed in 10.13.5.

I found the post you mentioned, but my problem is different in that I don't get any messages (sleep wake failure or any other message indicating there was something out of the ordinary). After a couple of hours it's just "off" and I when I press the power button it simply starts up.
@Gabriel: do you get any messages after turning your Mac on?

for me I do not actually get a message but a login screen showing an improper shutdown. After entering the password the systems dies. Soactually my iMac is also shutting down during sleep without cause.
I have exactly the same problem, goes into normal sleep mode for a while and then later on I hear the familiar chords as it shuts down. I cannot see any reason why this is happening.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
