irig 2 macbook air garageband?

i recently purchased an irig 2 to record my guitar on garageband using my macbook air (2015 v10.11.6).

i've plugged it into the headphone jack but garageband is only offering audio of built-in microphone. does this mean i have to buy some sort of usb adapter to connect the irig with and then plug it into the macbook? help please! 🙂

when i plug the irig in, it says its an 'external microphone' according to (System Preferences > Sound > Input)

That is o.k. then.

In GarageBand set the input source for the track you want to record from with iRig to "External Microphone", when you set up the track.

In the Smart Controls > Track > Record Settings > Input.

If you are seeing the External Microphone there, select it.

i have been putting it into the headphone jack but it isn't working. do i need to connect Apple headphones that has a microphone in it to the irig? i have a genuine Apple pair like this, but it does not have the little remote thing on it, it's plain. User uploaded file

You can use an Irig 2 with any Mac that has 3.5 mm headphone jack with Support for Apple iPhone headset with remote and microphone. If the Support for Apple iPhone headset with remote and microphone is missing, you cannot use the iRig 2 as an input splitter. Usually the Mac models built after 2008 will have this support.

The MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015) - Technical Specifications

are showing this Support for Apple iPhone headset.

The iris is meant to be working with a regular headset. If it is working at all, you can plug in any headphone.

i have a genuine Apple pair like this

Does the genuine Apple pair headset work with the MacBook Air?

Can you use dictation, when you plug it in? Does GarageBand see it?

What are you seeing in the System Preferences > Sound > Input?

Is a headphone port shown?

If not even the Apple headphone is working, there is a problem with the port.
