Safari Spinning Beach Ball

I have a problem with the latest update I did to MacOS 10.13.4 and the Safari update to 11.1. When I am on a web site with a long page I get the spinning beach ball several times scrolling down the page. So I removed all extensions and internet plugins and still have the problem. If I log in as another user I don't have the problem. I also loaded Safari Technology Preview and it does not have the problem. I did not have this issue before the latest upgrade. Not really sure where to go from here unless I give up on Safari and just use Chrome which does not have the issue. Any ideas? What changes when I log on as another user? What to try.

I am using a 2010 iMac. OS 10.13.4

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History…. The down side is it clears all cookies. Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db and move it to the trash.

Will it work in the Safe Mode?

Safe Mode - About El Capitan also Sierra

Safe Mode Startup – El Capitan. also Sierra

If that doesn't work, try running this program in your normal user account , then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy Report” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Try quitting Little Snitch and the Canon network scanner applications.

I ran it in safe mode and had the same problem with Safari. In fact it almost seemed worse in safe mode but maybe not. Got a long spinning beach ball just selecting a tab and had to wait 30 seconds for it to come back.

I did delete the caches but have not deleted the history as really want the history. So I was thing about going back to Safari 11.03 version. Not sure if I should try that or not.

As I said before the Safari Technology Preview works with out the problem so I am using it for the time being.

So I tried the 10.13.4 combo update to see if that would help the problem but still the same problem with Safari. Time machine will not let me install the older version of Safari so I am stuck with 11.3. So I guess I will just us the Safari Technology Preview version which works fine. Don't see how to fix it.

Well I had forgotten to try one of the thing you said. Deleting the Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db file. I tried that and guess what. Most of the spinning beachballs are now gone. I still see one on sometimes but not very often. I see the spinning beachball even in the Finder sometime. So this seems to fix the issue. Thanks for the help
