How do I turn off the confirmation to delete a message thread on iOS?

I have an iPhone 8. Up until about a week ago, I was able to delete a thread in the “messages” app by just sliding it to the left and tapping “delete”. But since last week, a confirmation has been popping up each time I do that. How do I turn it off?

you don't it a new feature with ios 11.3.

you can leave Apple a feedback here Product Feedback - Apple.

I was probably implemented because the forum gets countless threads of people accidentally deleting their message and they don't have a back up to restore to.

You don't. This is a new (and VERY WELCOME) feature released with iOS 11.3. This will help the countless numbers of people who accidentally delete important messages and then come here daily begging us to help them get them back. It's one extra step. You'll learn to adjust. And if you say you'll go Android. Go for it. Just as long as you know Android has required this on Android phones forever. Apple finally copied something Android offers this time.
