Why does iTunes not support Flac when WMP supports ALE/ALAC and FLAC on Windows Computers?

Before it was the case that Apple products, namely Mac, could support

things pertaining to Windows such as NTFS (read only if only) and

Microsoft Office products for Mac, and Apple allowed Safari to be

a browser for Windows ... maybe no more ...but it did in the past, etc..

Apple was thoughtful of Windows it seemed... so...

I do not understand why iTunes cannot or does not support Flac when

Windows Media Player (similar to iTunes) supports both flac and ALAC

or Apple Lossless files (ALE).

I hope Apple will change this.

Hi,

As this is a user to user support forum, we cannot discuss or speculate on what Apple plans to do. I suggest that you use this link to provide your comment direct to Apple Feedback - iTunes - Apple

HI,

I am aware of a few applications for Apple that deal with Flac files

namely Pine ...

Also dbpowerAmp has software for both Apple and Windows (I use

this on Windows and EAC).

I was just making commentary maybe Apple will support Flac in the future

as my point was that WMP supports ALAC and Flac. Windows seems

to deal with both with its premier media app whereas Mac does not with

iTunes.

... I want to get away from iTunes all together but unfortunately I like using my iPods... grrrr.

my dilemma has been the transferring of music from one media to another... specifically, I stored albums on an external drive and only added the songs I wanted to so that my hdd did not become bogged down. Well... I updated my music library to a 500Gb micro flash card so I can add ALL of the music. BUT... now iTunes will not add the files?!?! VLC plays them fine... windows plays them fine... I am on a macbook pro with an ssd in it and when I transfer the files, they are unplayable?!?! BUT ONLY IN ITUNES?!?! ... omg, *** APPLE????

Thanks

It seems my last comments were censored...

VLC (runs on Mac and Windows and tablets) works fine I agree and

VLC plays both Flac and ALAC (.m4a ) files

but iTunes does not support Flac which means iTunes is a possibly more deficient

product when it comes to comparing with WMP and VLC that accept ALAC

(along with other lossless music formats). iTunes seems to be the odd one out

even if it runs on Windows which could have been an advantage to it if only

it would support the universally accepted FLAC. I was trying to really support

iTunes given its potential advantage...but... alas

All the best with this. I tried my best and my efforts have been futile.

Thank you

Are iPods a lossy format crucible?

I tend to use Fiio X5 or Pono Player which accept lossless formats

(.wav, .flac and even alac )

I have an iPod Nano Apple gave to me for free, I want to get rid of it

but it is probably too late. I do not think anyone wants those now.

I never really used it as I could not easily transfer .wav files to it

and it had to be in sync with ...iTunes... I wanted more freedom

with the music in my library than it allowed. It was too complicated

an effort so iPod is just collecting dust but it was free anyway, so no

loss.

you can easily get away from iPod, though I never used it much (at all)

from the start after receiving one from Apple management for free...

I use Fiio X5 3rd generation and there is X7 Mark II ....

it can accept two 256GB microSD cards (I use one that is 400GB in one slot)

for a total of 656GB of lossless audio -FLAC level 5 ) and it has

32 GB internal storage for the X5 , 64GB for the X7.

You do not need to sync with iTunes or anything just store the raw lossless

(or lossy) audio files (.wav, .aiff, .flac, .m4a -ALE ) all work on it.

It also can run VLC and Neutron music players. VLC runs on all platforms

it seems and is better than iTunes. VLC runs on smartphones, tablets,

Windows and Apple Mac. it is also wireless with bluetooth to stream to

headsets and other bluetooth audio receiving devices and Wi-Fi for

connecting to your network where you can run apps like Youtube to expand

your listening profile.

I hope this helps.

yea man!!! I picked up two of them on a discount site and LOVE IT! purchased an adapter also for it so that it can direct plug in to any android phone, also bought an i-flashdevice since I use an iPhone for work. Again... LOVE IT because I can transfer everything back and forth using the adapter.

EDIT: Here is a link to a cheap one...

... also realize you get what you pay for! 🙂

Hmm, are you sure that has a full capacity of 512GB?

It looks like one of those generic microSD cards on Ebay

or Amazon and a lot of them (from bad experiences personally)

are fake, not genuine. One even was a generic brand and they

tried to put Patriot's name on it. I recognized the deception immediately

and reported it to Amazon and Patriot who started an investigation.

Make sure you can store the full capacity of songs or data on it without corruption

to make sure it is genuinely 512GBs as some can only hold maybe

10 GBs (from a 128GB or 256GB ones I got that were bogus even

with Samsung's, Toshiba's name on them).

I stick to name brands with these things and so far the Sandisk 400GB one

is the largest capacity one that worked for me. I am waiting on Integral 512GB

one to become available.

All the best. Good luck with that... I am skeptical.
