AOL Password Required

This is a long-standing issue with AOL mail on multiple Macs and versions of macOS. Mail keeps popping up the msg that a password is required for one of my AOL email accounts. I log on to my AOL email account in question through the AOL website and access the email account without problem. I paste the same password i used to login to the website into the Internet account section of system preferences and in red text see "unable to verify account name or password."

This problem has literally existed for years, but it is getting worse in later versions of macOS. In the past, the alert would simply show up in the middle of the screen and could be covered up by other windows. On modern versions of macOS, the alert appears in the upper right-hand corner of my screen, blocking that section of the screen.Plus, it is now popping up up to four reminders at a time of the same error. As soon as i close one of the messages, it reopens again.

I checked out the Apple support document on the issue and the steps did not apply to me, since I can use the password on the AOL website no probLem. Is there a way to resolve this issue once and for all aside from deleting that email account? Is ther a way to at least suppress the erroneous message?

Click on Go > Go to folder & type ~/Library then find a folder > keychains > remove first folder ( alfa numeric folder ) to trash . Restart & empty the trash , open system preferences go to internet accounts & once again configure web mail account , I cloud mail account by entering their passwords .This is applicable in Mac OS X El - Capitan and previous versions .

Is your Apple ID same as web mail address ( could be gmail or yahoo or any ) , when you open system preferences - click on I cloud is your Apple ID signed in within iCloud account .

In past do you ever used iCloud account keychain ? and set up previously , what about iCloud verification code is it in records ?

Try to open system preferences > internet accounts and click on the mail account and sign in with the mail address and password .

If you check the box of keychain in iCloud , without iCloud verification code it is difficult to set up again , as you have not clearly said .

It seems that login keychain and iCloud Keychain are corrupted , please try to create a new user account How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support

And don't delete the old user account in the new user account configure your mail account Set up Mail on your Mac with email accounts - Apple Support

And reply what are the results .

Is there just a way to suppress certain error messages? The messages are incredibly annoying and they always pop up ON TOP of all other windows, including application windows, and as soon as I dismiss them, they come back. I have had this problem on more than one Mac over the years, so i don't think the hassle of a creating a new user is going to solve the problem.
