I am using High Sierra 10.13.4 - all of my files in my documents have disappeared. I have done nothing that would come close to deleting the files. Where did they go and how do i restore them. This problem started only after the upgrade to 10.13.4. Thank you!

After some updates iCloud Drive is enabled by default. I'm not sure why Apple does this and it's a common question. Glad you found the answer.

I may have solved my own issue. It appears that they are all on iCloud Drive and I had to re-download to local drive.
