How do you delete "phantom" audiobooks from itunes

I have downloaded audiobooks from my itunes library to my iphone 6 plus. When I'm done, I delete from the iphone. Sometimes, the audiobook still shows up in my itunes when I'm showing the list "On my device", even after syncing. There seems to be no way to delete these books -- they are not showing in my iphone (and I have also checked iphone storage) and there is no delete from itunes. I also can't click the delete button on the keyboard when in itunes to delete these audiobooks. Any ideas?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I can see from your post that you're having a hard time deleting audiobooks from your library. I know how important it is to be able to manage the content on your devices and am glad to help. The article below provides some information to help with this.

Get started with iBooks

Delete books and audiobooks

If you want to delete a book or audiobook, open iBooks on your iOS device, then tap Select. Scroll to find the item that you want to delete, then tap it. Choose Delete, then tap one of the options:

Tap Remove Download to delete it only from your device.

Tap Delete Everywhere to delete the item from iCloud and automatically remove it from all of your other devices.

See Hide and unhide music, movies, TV shows, audiobooks, and books - Apple Support. If you hide the item from your purchase history it will no longer show in the cloud on the device.
