When I add ringtones into iTunes, they just become greyed out with the dotted circle. There is no tones tab in the drop-down menu at the top left, and there is no Tones section under the Library area in the left column. How do you add ringtones now?

Sorry, see the part about the possibility that you may have to remove all existing custom tones on the device, then add back what you want. Basically it looks like a bit of housekeeping required for the new paradigm didn't happen for everyone automatically.

I'm afraid I still don't see the solution. I drag and dropped the songs into the tones section and they're all greyed out, as outlined in my question. That link doesn't seem to answer the greyed out part.
