If you cancel your Apple Music subscription. Do you lose all of your downloads?

Anything download from the Apple Music subscription service will stop working and eventually be deleted from the device if the subscription is cancelled.
It's a rental service, like Netflix or a Gym membership. You don't own the songs much like you don't own the gym equipment. Only have access to them while the subscription is active.
